STAR GAZER'S HEAVEN! Combine the clear, dark skies over Tucson with a Whether you like to take an occasional look or are an old pro at scanning the skies, skywatchers are sure to be pleased that Cat Mountain Lodge Bed & Breakfast has completed Spencer’s Observatory. The observatory bears the name of Kerstin Block’s husband Spencer, who died in September 2009 after a 4 1/2-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Spencer’s Observatory has a retractable roof that exposes a phenomenal panoramic view of the exceptionally dark skies that hover over this particular area of the Tucson Mountains. The observatory houses a 10" Meade LX200 SCG telescope, a Celestron 14" SCT telescope on a GoTo Mount, as well as a Piggy Back 4" Stellar View Refractor. Construction was overseen by Robby Tackett, a local entrepreneur and amateur astronomer who works with the telescopes. Open to B & B guests and to the public.
